WHO WE ARE
A Licensed In-Home Multi Age Day Care
Young Explorers Early Learning and Child Care is a licensed home-based child care program located in the North Cowichan area. We are dedicated to creating an environment, both indoors and outdoors that encourages, supports and strives to foster the development of the whole child. Through the play-based child-led learning program, children are given the opportunity to develop their social, emotional, physical and intellectual selves in a safe and caring child-centered environment.
Young Explorers aims to provide a comfortable and safe space where children can feel free to explore, experiment, learn and create. Where children can develop friendships and learn how to treat others with kindness and respect and where they can develop self-confidence and know that they are valued.

A QUIET SPACE FOR READING
The book selection is rotated regularly to accommodate the childrens' current interests.
A SPACE FOR DRAMATIC PLAY
The children love to enact great dramatic play scenarios together as they navigate what they know about the world around them. Our Young Explorers have seen this space change from a doctors office to veterinarian, a sweet shop or bake shop to a Chinese noodle house and many other great spaces. A great space for their imagination to take over.
A SHADED OUTDOOR SPACE WITH LOTS TO OFFER
The Young Explorers outdoor space offers many different play areas for the children to explore. We have a playhouse, a sandbox and a mud kitchen for making delicious mud meals.
A COVERED PATIO AREA
For those rainy wet days or hot and sunny days. At the picnic table sensory activities are set up to maximize our outdoor time and keep us sheltered from the elements.
A VEGETABLE GARDEN
The children participate in planting and caring for our vegetable garden with the added benefit of sampling the food as it grows. The children are learning all the steps to growing our own food from planting the seeds to harvesting the food. So much learning happens here!
BLOCKS AND BUILDING AREA
Lots of space for children to build. The cupboards are full of all sorts of different materials from blocks to magnetic tiles, train tracks and roads. Block play stimulates learning in all domains of development, intellectual, physical, social-emotional and language. The Young Explorers have lots of fun constructing and creating in this space.
I have over 10 years’ experience as an Early Childhood Educator. I've previously worked in childcare centres in Vancouver as well as Duncan. My husband and I moved to the Island and started our family. After the birth of our first daughter I decided to open my own daycare from home. I wanted to have the opportunity to raise my children full time as well as providing other children a safe and fun home environment for play and learning while their parents are working.
We are located in a quiet neighbourhood, off of Maple Bay Rd, just a 5 minutes’ drive from Maple Bay Elementary school.
